Neo Nazi, KKK, & White Supremacist invade Charlottesville

How in 2017 are w talking about Nazis and KKK here in the USA?! I grew up being taught that racism was a thing of the past. But if nothing else 2017 has opened my eyes to the cold hard fact that racism far from being gone. Its hard to process it at times and i think that is partially why it took me months to make this post about it.

I arrived Sunday in Charlottesville with 4 other people all wondering what we were getting ourselves into. The day before huge riots broke out, protesters showed up in force to protect their city and those in danger form the attacks from the KKK, nazis and, supremacists, a car ran into a crowd of people killing one, Heather Heyer. What We walked into was a city in shock, overwhelmed by grief, anger, and fear. the Intruders had been escorted out of the city but we walked into the aftermath. We wandered the streets meeting people that had been attacked by the intruders, people that had worked with Heather, and were on the sight where the car crashed through people, were holding the line so the intruders couldn't enter churches to vandalize and attack people. People yelling at each other, even though they stood for the same thing, as a way to release the hurt, fear, and anger inside of them. It was overwhelming as you stood in the middle of people yelling at each other, yelling at cops, people posted on rooftops with sniper-rifles, media times swarming. you almost felt hopeless that hate would win and divide this city. BUT this city is strong and wouldn't let this event define them or its people We ran into a lot of pain but we also ran into a lot of love, hope and strength. People coming together to stand against hate. standing as one. As our day concluded hundreds of people gathered to join in solidarity of prayer and silence to honor Heather and what she stood for. I saw people that where yelling at each other unified standing together. I watched a city town apart by hate come back as one to show that love wins.
