Mission Statement

Humanizing through Story is a racial, social, and environmental justice and advocacy platform that captures and shares stories to move people from places of comfort to places of active involvement. In addition to sharing the dignity and worth of every human life through our stories, we cultivate conversations around issues affecting marginalized and oppressed groups. We invite to the table anyone willing to do the hard work of healing, wholeness, and looking for better ways forward for those discarded, overlooked, shunned, and oppressed.

Why This Space Was Created

Life is full of people with stories worth telling. The stories I am most drawn to speak with my camera lens are those seldom described by those unwilling to look beyond the surface, under the skin, or further than specific geographies. More than anything, I want to capture the shared human experience that runs through the veins of all who live and breathe. I want to capture their beauty and heart, passion and value, hopes, dreams, sorrows, and fears. Through my platform and agency, I want to help elevate the oppressed, bring recognition to those rarely seen, give an ear to those often silenced, and provide vivid images of injustices impacting communities. Yes, I want to educate and make people aware. But I want more than that. I want to help create needed change--from social and racial justice and equality to the threats and realities of climate destabilization. I’m a risk-taking artist who desires to inspire others to dream bigger, love more profoundly, and risk more. By going anywhere, meeting anyone, and risking everything, I hope to show the beauty of the world and its people, cultures, and art and shed light on its oppression, injustice, and inequality. Everyone has a story, and it’s worth telling. Quite simply, because every level matters. I hope my work will inspire people to make a difference in their community and worldwide, to find and see the beauty of life in its many stages and walks of life, and to encourage them to stand in the gap.

Wednesday 11.29.23 the @inwclp "Inland Northwest Coalition for the Liberation of Palestine Hosted as protest outside the downtown Spokane, WA Courthouse on International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. "This "Die-In'' protest observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, recognized annually by the United Nations on November 29th. "The significance of this date harks back to 1947 when the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine (resolution 181 (II)). Since 1977, the UN has designated November 29th as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (resolution 32/40 B). The day serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice, freedom, and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. In alignment with the UN's call for solidarity, the INWCLP, will unite for a peaceful demonstration. Together, they aim to raise awareness, educate, and advocate for the liberation of Palestine and the Palestinian people. The INWCLP encourages all community members to join in this act of solidarity and support for the Palestinian cause." - Press release from @inwclp

Yesterday.24.23, @pslspokane & @psl_yakimatri hosted a rally and boycott in solidarity with Palestine in downtown Spokane, Washington. The event was called " Shut it Down for Palestine," a cry to say today, Black Friday, we will not allow "business as usual" while a genocide is happening in Gaza. On Instagram, they stated, "We must send a message to the capitalist class that there will be no business as usual while Palestinians face genocide and occupation at the hands of apartheid Israel!" Around 50 people from the community showed up for the event. There were four or five speakers, lots of chanting and holding signs outside a shopping center, and they marched through the city up and down several blocks while people shopped on Black Friday. Around 5O, police on bikes, squad cars, and unmarked vehicles followed the protesters and blocked the entrance to the shopping center. Outside, one agitator on a bike who followed, yelling and mocking the group; the event was completely peaceful. Organizers shared about future events next week. Monday, there will be a City Council meeting at 5pm and a rally on Wednesday at the Federal Building at 4pm, which is part of the "International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People."

We understand that the news and information coming out about the Israel-Palestine conflict can be disorienting and overwhelming, as well as painful and heartbreaking. Where do we begin to understand the complex long history of this region that spans over 150 years? How do we engage? I have been asking these questions myself and wanted to create a space for some of these questions to begin to be answered. We are compiling a long/ comprehensive list of resources to help us on this journey. Some of this information may ask you to question what you've known or have been taught most of your life. It may shift your worldviews and push you into uncomfortable places, but let it. All those emotions are valid, so engage and sit with them and let them change you and move you into action. If you are wanting to help but don't know where to start we also have a list of places to donate and simple actions we can all do today. This list is not complete and want input from you all. Send us a email to DM here if there is other resources that you feel is needed to be added here and lastly please share the this post and or the link to the page. The more people that are empowered with education the more humanity can win. We believe that lasting, justice based healing change can happen for the people of Palestine, and the whole region but it starts with all us knowing the deep and long history of this area and then all of us moving into action.

We are currently working on creating a database on our website and other platforms of recourses connected to what's happening in Gaza and Palestine as a whole. From accounts to follow, education resources, organizations to donate to, authors, and other helpful tools so we all can be better equipped and empowered to talk about and advocate about this issue so we can do our part to stop these horrific unfolding actions. We must keep humanity at the forefront and demand a end of the of the bombardment of Gaza & he slaughter of human life. We hope to have this resource up and going within a day! Israel has started their ground assault on Gaza but before they did this they made sure to cut the power and Internet to the area so documentation of their actions could not been seen by the outside world. Israel just put out a "urgent message to Gaza" but it's in English to an Arab speaking country and sent after the internet is down so how are they suppose to get the message. They are told to move south yet they continue to bomb the southren half as well. The the narrative continues to be pushed so Israel looks like the good guy to the western world while it commences acts of genocide to the Palestinians. There are few people on the ground now within Gaza who can get any news or information out and voices of journalist on the ground countine to targeted with over 20 journalist killed and others are not allowed to enter the space to provide coverage. A glimpse into today's rally and march in Portland, OR as over a thousand showed up to show their support for Palestine, the end of the ethnic cleansing of its people, the bombing of Gaza, and for the freedom of Palestine. The march started outside the office of Rep Earl Blumenauer @repblumenauer where multiple people gave speeches, offered prayers, shared facts and recources, ans led chants. The group then marched into downtown Portland where the march ended at the Pioneer Courthouse Square, about 2 miles away.
